Tuesday, we had a special guest visit Ms. Alves' Culinary and Mrs. Stevenson's Animal Science classes! Genna Emmett from Lake County Meat Processors LLC joined us to share her knowledge and expertise about the meat-packing industry. She gave an insightful overview of what the industry entails and walked students through the process of how meat is handled at their facility. Genna also gave a live demonstration on breaking down a primal cut of pork into both bone-in and boneless pork chops—an incredible learning experience for our students! We appreciate the time Genna took to speak with our classes and share upcoming services they will be offering soon. Thank you, Genna, for making this hands-on learning experience possible!

The 2nd and 3rd grade class at Union celebrated the lunar eclipse with a moon party. They played pin the eclipse on the moon, ate Moon Pies, and made a model of the phases of the moon out of Oreos. It was out of this world!

The phases of the moon were delicious!
Students used spoons to shape the frosting.
Who knew the moon was so yummy!
This requires some concentration.
LHS SENIOR PROJECT SPOTLIGHT - A new requirement for Lakeview High School seniors is a senior project. The following is a spotlight on one of the student led projects. Sofia Goodin is working closely with her high school counselor, Brandi Harris, and community members to organize a list of local scholarships for seniors. She will be collecting information on all past recipients and writing a small summary for them. Throughout this process she will reach out to members of the community who have an affiliation with the scholarship to gather the information she needs. Goodin hopes she will be able to make it easier for future seniors to know about their scholarship options and how to access them. She also hopes her project will bring light to the meaning of the scholarships and the people who embody them.

LHS SENIOR PROJECT SPOTLIGHT - A new requirement for Lakeview High School seniors is a senior project. The following is a spotlight on one of the student led projects. Redden Lym has chosen to refurbish the high school wrestling record board as his senior project. Lym has been wrestling since he was five and he is excited to share his wrestling passion through his senior project. He hopes refurbishing the current plywood record board will honor the achievements of past wrestlers and inspire current students. He plans to change the board from plain plywood into a yellow and blue board made of metal. This new record board will celebrate the dedication of former athletes and highlight the importance of preserving school history. Lym estimates that the record board will be finished in the spring of 2025 and those who would like to see his board can find it in the north hallway of Lakeview High School.
